T4T cruising safety and privacy
Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.
Outing is the big risk
Being outed can cost someone a job, a home or a family. Treat everything a person tells you, shows you or sends you as theirs. Do not share it, and do not screenshot it.
Check who you are talking to
Fake profiles exist everywhere. Ask for a quick video call or a photo that proves it is them. Be wary of anyone who asks for money or pushes you to leave the app.
Share less at first
- You do not need a face in your photos.
- On cruush, your exact position is not shown by default. People see an area, and you can turn on Ghost Mode.
- Parts of your profile can be kept for mutual cruushes only.
- Keep your workplace, full name and address off your profile.
Meeting up
- Meet in a public place the first time.
- Tell a friend where you are going and when you will check in.
- Charge your phone and know how you are getting home.
- Leave if something feels wrong.
If something goes wrong
Block them from their profile, which takes effect immediately in both directions, and report them. A person reads every report. If you are in danger, call emergency services first.
