T4T cruising: a guide
Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.
What T4T means
T4T stands for trans for trans. It describes trans people who want to meet, date or have sex with other trans people. Some people use it as a label, some use it as a filter, and some just mean a community.
Why people choose it
- Less explaining. You do not have to teach anyone what being trans means.
- Less fetishizing. Cis people sometimes treat trans people as a category or a fantasy.
- Shared understanding of bodies, transition, names and language.
- More trust, because someone has been through something similar.
Who counts
T4T is for trans men, trans women, nonbinary and genderqueer people, and anyone else who is trans. It is not a test. If you think of yourself as trans, you are welcome.
Finding people
On cruush, you can choose the T4T crowd on your profile if you tick I am trans. Crowds are social spaces, like a gay or dyke bar, and they are not identity labels. You can also filter the map by crowd.
Meeting up
- Talk first. Say what you want and what you do not.
- Ask for names, pronouns and the words someone likes for their body.
- Meet in a public place the first time.
- Tell a friend where you are.
Keep the space good
Do not out anyone. Do not share a screenshot of a profile or chat. Respect that people are at different stages and have different boundaries.
