Straight, curious, bi, pan, sapphic: what the labels mean
Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.
There is no test
Labels are tools. You pick the ones that help, and you can change them. On cruush you can choose up to three for your profile.
The words
- Straight: attracted to men.
- Curious: wondering about attraction you have not acted on.
- Questioning: still working out your orientation.
- Heteroflexible: mostly attracted to men, and open to being with women.
- Homoflexible: mostly attracted to women, and open to being with men.
- Bisexual: attracted to more than one gender.
- Pansexual: attracted to people regardless of gender.
- Queer: a broad word many people use for any orientation or gender that is not straight and cis.
- Lesbian: a woman who is attracted to women.
- Sapphic: a word for women who love women, often used by lesbian, bisexual and queer women.
Labels can overlap
People use more than one word, and the words can mean slightly different things to different people. If you are not sure what someone means, ask them.
You do not have to pick
You can leave labels off. Your profile can describe what you are looking for in plain words instead.
