A queer cruising app for New York City
Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.
How the map works
You open cruush and see a map of who is nearby, who is passing through, and who is up for meeting now. Everything else in the app exists to make that map worth opening.
cruush works in and around New York City, within about 100 miles of the city.
Cruising and traveling
You can move your pin to somewhere you are going, so you can see and be seen there before you arrive. That works for a night out across the river or a trip into the city.
Location
cruush does not publish your precise position by default. You decide whether anyone sees it, and you can restrict it to people you are mutual cruushes with. Ghost Mode publishes a decoy position, so someone watching over time cannot average their way back to where you actually are.
Photos and messages
Profile and message photos are encrypted where they are stored, each with its own key. They are only decrypted for a signed-in viewer who is allowed to see them. Photos sent in a message can be set to view once and can expire.
Who runs it
cruush runs on European infrastructure. It is independent and is not owned by a larger dating company. It is developed by technosovereign, a creative technology company.
Who it is for
cruush is for adults, minimum age 18, and an account requires age verification.
