Queer cruising app on Staten Island

Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.

The borough

Staten Island is Richmond County, the southernmost of the five boroughs. It is less dense than the rest of the city.

Getting around

The Staten Island Ferry runs between St. George and Lower Manhattan, takes about twenty-five minutes and is free. The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge connects the island to Brooklyn. The Staten Island Railway runs along the east side of the island.

Using cruush

If you are in Manhattan for the night and heading home on the ferry, you can move your pin to St. George before you board.

Neighborhood notes

St. George is the ferry terminal on the north shore. Stapleton and Tompkinsville are nearby, and the island stretches south to Tottenville.

Planning a night

The ferry runs all day and night, every day, but less often late. Buses connect the ferry to most of the island, and many people use a car.
