What is Ghost Mode?
Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.
The idea
Ghost Mode publishes a decoy position instead of your real one. You are still on the map, just not where you are.
Why not simply hide
A person who is hidden stands out, and a person with no pin gives other people something to speculate about. A decoy gives them something to see that does not point at you.
How the decoy behaves
It is stable enough to be useful and generated so that watching it over many rotations does not reveal where you really are. During a Ghost Mode session it moves, so your pin does not settle in one spot.
The radius
You pick a privacy radius. Someone without precise-location access sees a decoy somewhere inside that area.
Who still sees the real position
People you share precise location with, such as mutual cruushes you have allowed.
After you log off
Your pin can stay on the map for a window you choose. Ghost Mode stays with it for that whole window, even after you leave.
Who Ghost Mode is for
People who want to use the map without leaving a trail to their home or work. Some use it all the time, and some only when they are somewhere they do not want to be found.
What it does not do
It does not stop people you share precise location with from seeing where you are. If you have shared with a mutual cruush, they see the real position.
