How to use a cruising app for the first time
Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.
Before you open anything
Decide what you want. A hookup tonight, something casual later, or just a look around. You do not have to know exactly, but it helps to know roughly.
Steps
- Create your profile. You can have up to four photos, and none has to show your face.
- Pick labels for your gender and sexuality, and add pronouns if you like.
- Check your location settings. By default people see an area, not your exact spot.
- Open the map and just look for a while.
- Send a cruush to someone who interests you. They do not have to answer.
- If it is mutual, start talking. Photos in a message can be set to view once.
- Meet in a public place the first time, and tell a friend where you are going.
If something feels wrong
Leave. You do not owe anyone an explanation. Block or report them afterwards.
What the map is like
It shows people as pins in an area, not as a grid of faces. You can zoom around and look before you do anything.
What to say first
Say hello and something specific. If you are interested in meeting soon, say that. You can keep it short.
Taking a break
You can turn on Ghost Mode, block anyone, or delete your account from settings. Nothing has to be permanent.
