Sexual health after meeting someone

Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.

Get tested regularly

If you have more than one partner, regular testing is the normal way to look after yourself. How often depends on what you do and with whom, and a clinician can set a schedule with you.

Talk to a clinic

A doctor or sexual health clinic can tell you about vaccines for things like hepatitis and HPV, and about HIV prevention such as PrEP. Many cities and counties run low-cost or free clinics.

Tell your partners

If you test positive for something, tell people you have been with recently so they can get tested. Many health departments offer anonymous notification services.

Protection

Condoms and other barriers lower the risk of many infections. If you use them, check the expiry date and use a lube that is safe with the material.

If something happens

If you think you were exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, ask a clinic or emergency room about PEP straight away. It works best when it is started quickly.
