Hosting and traveling to meet someone
Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.
Who goes where
Hosting means the meeting happens at your place. Traveling means you go to theirs. Both have trade-offs. Hosting gives you more control. Traveling means you can leave when you want.
If you host
- Tell a friend who is coming and when.
- Do not give your exact address until you are ready.
- Decide beforehand what is off limits.
- Have a way to ask someone to leave.
If you travel
- Share the address with a friend and set a check-in time.
- Charge your phone and know how you are getting home.
- Pick the route during the day if you can.
- Leave if it does not feel right.
Meeting somewhere neutral first
A quick coffee or drink somewhere public lets you see whether you want to continue. It costs an hour and tells you a lot.
Late nights
Check transit schedules before you go. In New York the subway runs all night, but trains come less often after midnight, and commuter rail and PATH have fewer trains late.
