A discreet cruising app
Written by Julien Lenaz, lead developer of cruush.
What discreet means
For some people it means not being out everywhere. For others it just means keeping personal things personal. No app can promise secrecy, because anyone can photograph a screen. What you can do is limit what is there to see.
The pieces
- Your location is shown as an area, not a point, unless you choose otherwise.
- Ghost Mode shows a decoy position instead of your real one.
- Photos do not need to show your face.
- Parts of your profile can be kept for mutual cruushes only.
- Photos in a message can be set to view once, and messages can expire.
Search engines
Member profiles, photos and messages are not available to search engines. Only a few public pages on cruush are indexed, and those are pages like this one.
Leaving
You can delete your account from your settings in the app. Deletion removes your profile, your photos and your messages.
Practical habits
Apps are only part of staying private. Turn off previews of notifications on your phone if others see your screen, think about which photos you post, and keep identifying details out of your profile text.
What to avoid
Do not send a face photo to someone you do not trust yet, and avoid sharing your workplace or full name. You can always share more later, and you cannot take it back once it is out.
Coverage
cruush works in and around New York City, within about 100 miles of it.
